Louisiana Biofilm Matrix
Collected from the former site of George W. Stokes Oil Company in Madisonville, Louisiana, this installation transforms the residue of a once-active petroleum distribution yard into a field of archaeological evidence. Following the site's abandonment, algae, sediment, rust, and hydrocarbon deposits accumulated where pumps and industrial infrastructure once stood. Relocated to the gallery, these materials blur distinctions between natural growth and industrial aftermath, revealing a landscape shaped equally by extraction, decay, and ecological succession. The work considers how industry persists within the environment long after its economic function has disappeared, becoming embedded within the physical and biological fabric of place.
